Nyaughty is a Giant Sack of Shit

   and Sel isn't much better

Nyaughty is a prolific FFXIV modder, responsible for the Eve body replacer and assorted other mods. He is also a peddler of transphobia, racism, antifeminism, forced birtherism, vaccine denial, and so on.

I did not compile these images but they are comprehensive enough that I feel comfortable making these statements about him. I do not particularly care what he says about his own positions-- it is the most amateur fig leafing and the fact that it is at all persuasive to a single one of the mouthbreathers that haunts the XIV Mod Archive discord is only proof that if you let one fascist into a bar, it is now a fash bar.

Nyaughty is legally permitted to say what he pleases. He is allowed to be a channer dipshit parroting whatever the op of the day is. Sel, who runs the archive, has no legal obligation to remove his content, and I am not calling for this to be done. It is clear which sorts of people Sel prefers to feel comfortable using the archive. I do not know whether Sel is ideologically aligned or merely a coward, and there is no material difference; the nature of free speech is that certain kinds of speech have chilling effects on others, and Sel has chosen to support expressions that chill marginalized artists.

I will not say Sel is worse than Nyaughty, because Nyaughty is the one actually producing this speech and these works, but Sel has proven investiture in maintaining a platform for Nyaughty's racist little dollies, and should not be considered immune to criticism.

Regardless, I am using Sel's archive to post my mods. This comes after a great deal of consideration, but the XIV mod archive is neither the first nor the last platform I intend to use that is controlled by someone willing to offer material support to fascists. At the end of the day I have my own selfish concerns regarding visibility, and there are as yet no comprehensive alternatives (I appreciate the Glamour Dresser, but the site shows many of the flaws with Wordpress). I have the means to self-host my work, and so this site is intended to be the primary source for my mods. I am not in community with the users of the XIV Mod Archive, nor do I intend to form a community around my own work. Posting a link and a couple screenshots to a site made by a coward and used by fascists is de rigeur on the modern Internet; for the moment that is what I will be doing.

At the very least, I have no intention to exist in proximity to a missing stair. Nyaughty and his work serve to launder bigotry to the XIV modding community. I am certain he is not the only one, but his presence as a fixture is an unconscious canary in this coal mine.

My work, such as it is, does not and will not knowingly build upon Nyaughty's work and I encourage other artists to end support for the Eve body and its derivatives.

I support those taking their work off the XIV Mod Archive, and wish them well. I hope that Aetherlink will make this a viable option for more artists in the near future.
